BOWEL Management System

Control bowel leakage. Maintain a cleaner, safer patient environment.

When diarrhoea leads to bowel incontinence, the consequences can range from minor skin irritation to more severe complications such as perineal dermatitis, disrupted fluid balance in the gut, infection risk, and even sepsis. Bowel incontinence is also recognised as a transmission pathway for infections such as C. difficile and Norovirus. Left unmanaged, it can cause widespread contamination throughout a care setting—affecting patients, families, and staff alike.

A reliable bowel management system offers a practical solution by containing infectious waste at source. This not only helps reduce the risk of cross-contamination but also supports better skin care by keeping the area dry and free from irritants, helping to prevent pressure injuries and ulcers.

By isolating infectious output in a sealed system during use, the spread of illness is significantly curtailed. Bowel waste is collected efficiently, minimising exposure and helping to protect everyone in the care environment.

The economic advantages of effective bowel waste control include fewer pressure ulcers, a reduced burden of healthcare-associated infections, less demand on nursing time, lower medical supply usage, and fewer complications requiring intervention.

Contain, Maintain and Control

Secco Protect™ is a user-friendly Bowel Management System designed to improve patient comfort, reduce the risk of pressure injuries, and minimise environmental contamination. Its advanced super absorbent design locks in liquid waste and odours, supporting hygiene while helping to preserve patient dignity.

The system includes a soft silicone catheter with a low-pressure retention cuff and integrated irrigation access, a 1.5-litre collection bag containing a superabsorbent pad, a mounting plate with a securing strap, and a 45ml syringe for inflation and flushing. Once inserted, the silicone catheter is held comfortably in place by the cuff. Bowel waste is channelled through the drainage tube into the collection bag, where it is absorbed and converted into a semi-solid gel for safer handling and disposal.

The drainage tube features two separate access ports: a white port for inflating and deflating the retention cuff, and a blue port used to irrigate and flush the catheter system as needed.

Contain

The sealed catheter system and absorbent technology reduce the risk of leaks and contamination, helping to limit infection risks for both patients and staff.

Maintain

Designed with patient comfort in mind, Secco Protect™ uses Thinwall Technology to reduce skin damage and limit the chance of pressure ulcer development common with bowel catheters.

Control

Minimise odours and enhance patient dignity. The EasyFlush odor resisting coating and deodorising filter contribute to a more comfortable and respectful care environment. The large 1.5L capacity also reduces the frequency of bag changes by up to 50%.

Secco saves more than just patient’s dignity

Incontinence is associated with an increased risk for all pressure ulcers, but especially full thickness injuries1

The substantial burden of Clostridium Difficile Infection (CDI) on healthcare services, including lengthy hospital stays and readmissions, can increase the costs of managing these patients to circa £5,0002
